In Your Community
We still see far too many impaired driving deaths and injuries in this country every year. Did you know that, on average, impaired driving kills four Canadians each day and seriously injures another 207 daily? This is simply not acceptable. Road crashes still remain the leading cause of death among teenagers and more 19 year olds die or are seriously injured than any other age group. Impaired drivers on our roads are a concern to all of us.
MADD Toronto volunteers and members work diligently and consistently in your community to stop further preventable and senseless deaths and injuries from occurring.
Be sure to check out the Calendar on our home page to see just how busy MADD Toronto volunteers have been working to keep our streets safe!
Here is a sampling of how these dedicated volunteers work diligently in your community to keep your streets safe:
- We reach countless Torontonians each year through participation in numerous health fairs, awareness events, and awareness weeks at local schools and businesses.
- We deeply affect numerous convicted impaired drivers each year through participation in Victim Impact Panels.
- We reach countless numbers of people through participation in local Parades.
- We reach countless numbers of drivers through sponsorship of and participation in numerous R.I.D.E. spotchecks in the GTA.
- We attend court to monitor the results of impaired driving cases.
- We reach countless Torontonians each year through our mall displays, various events and provision of supplies.
- We educate ( or impact) more than 10,000 students each year with our victim speaker presentations in high schools.
- We keep in regular contact with your local politicians to remind them of the importance of strong and effective impaired driving laws and enforcement of these laws in our courts.
- We stay in touch with the media and through countless interviews keep the issue of separating drinking from driving in the forefront.
- We promote safe and responsible decision making among the youth of Toronto through the Poster and Essay Contest.
All of the above does not count the many times this year that our volunteers may have stopped someone from drinking and driving or told a friend about MADD Canada and what we stand for.
You too can become involved and make a difference.
